About us

Shinfield Voluntary Car Service

'Getting people out and about'

A door-to-door transport service set up and run by volunteers for residents within Shinfield Parish or patients living in the catchment area of Swallowfield Medical Practice.

We drive you to almost any medical appointment including:

  • Swallowfield Medical Practice: including Arborfield and Shinfield surgeries

  • Shinfield Health Centre

  • Hospitals including: Royal Berks Hospital, Townlands Henley, West Berks Community Hospital, Wokingham Hospital and other local hospitals

  • Dentists/Opticians

  • Chiropodists/Physiotherapy

  • Vaccination clinics

Longer distance journeys, such as John Ratcliffe Hospital in Oxford, may be possible by special arrangement.  We regret that we’re unable to undertake driving to hospital for short notice medical emergencies.

The Car Service is a Registered Charity run and staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers who give their time and service freely to help provide transport for the benefit of people who have difficulty getting out and about.

Shinfield Voluntary Car Service was set up in 2010 as a collaboration between Shinfield Parish Council and Swallowfield Medical practice, for people who either live in the Parish or are registered with the Medical Practice.

The aim of the Service is to assist local people who have difficulty coping with public transport to get to appointments of a medical nature.  We are proud of what we have achieved so far...
